Proposals for a new housing estate in Walsall have emerged through an Environmental Impact Assessment application recently submitted to the council. Developer Taylor Wimpey aims to build up to 600 homes on agricultural land located west of Chester Road and north of Little Hardwick Road.
Although the initial screening opinion assessment was submitted earlier this month, the application was withdrawn within two weeks. A representative from planning consultancy Lichfields has confirmed that an outline planning application will be filed soon with Walsall Council. This application will feature provisions for open spaces, as well as land designated for health and community services. Access to the estate is planned via Chester Road.
Despite being green belt land, the 27-hectare site has been highlighted by Walsall Council as one of the larger areas suitable for development in its draft local plan. The council’s document, which guides potential developers, indicates that the site could accommodate up to 430 homes.

In addition, three adjacent sites, mostly within the green belt, have been earmarked by the council to support over 400 homes collectively. The region is already home to two significant housing developments pending council decisions: a full planning application for 500 homes off Bosty Lane, and an outline application proposing a neighborhood of 850 homes off Queslett Road.
These plans reflect ongoing pressures to meet housing demand in Walsall, but also raise concerns about the impact on green belt land and local communities.
