Two New Pub Rules in England Confirmed for June Amid World Cup Excitement

The Labour Party government has unveiled two key changes to pub regulations in England starting this June, just in time for the 2026 World Cup. The international football tournament, taking place from Thursday, June 11, to Sunday, July 19, in Mexico, Canada, and the USA, has prompted these new measures to enhance the experience for fans across the UK.

Announced on Saturday, June 6, the new rules will allow pubs to extend their opening hours until 2 a.m. during any home nation matches that occur beyond the group stages. This extension is designed to let fans fully immerse themselves in the thrilling atmosphere of the games without worrying about early closing times.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer commented on the changes, highlighting the unifying power of football: “Nothing brings us all together like a World Cup summer and cheering on England in a packed pub with everyone glued to the game. Red tape should not get in the way of fans enjoying the game with friends and local pubs doing great trade too.”

Communities Secretary Steve Reed also weighed in, encouraging supporters to back their local pubs: “The last thing any of us want to see is people being turfed indoors half-way through penalties. So let’s show the fun police the red card, get behind England and support our pubs. This time, it really could be coming home.”

Meanwhile, England star Bukayo Saka is focused on maintaining his fitness ahead of the tournament. Despite a persistent Achilles injury, he expressed confidence in his recovery, crediting the medical teams at Arsenal and England: “Since March, they have managed me amazingly and helped me get back on the pitch and do what I can for the team. I am feeling better than I have for the last few months. I am ready to go.”

With these new pub regulations and players like Saka fighting fit, football fans in England have plenty to look forward to during this summer’s World Cup.
