The AA has unveiled its latest rankings of 228 Blue Flag beaches across the UK and Ireland, evaluating factors such as sunshine hours, water quality, lifeguard presence, visitor reviews, and more to reveal the top beaches for 2026.
This comprehensive analysis looked at average Google review scores and search volumes, daily parking costs, lifeguard services, proximity to RNLI lifeboat stations, average water temperatures, and monthly sunshine hours in July.
Each beach received a score out of 100, with the best beach named in every UK region.

Topping the overall list is Devon’s Exmouth Beach, which scored an impressive 76.42. Located about three hours from Birmingham via the M5, it’s a fantastic day-trip option for many.
For those seeking the best beach in the Midlands region, Mablethorpe Beach in Lincolnshire stands out. Also approximately a three-hour drive from Birmingham but in the opposite direction, this East Coast gem boasts golden sands and gentle waves perfect for families.
According to an AA spokesperson, “Mablethorpe Beach ranks 43rd overall with a score of 62.70 out of 100. The beach offers excellent water quality and lifeguard patrols, along with 196 hours of sunshine and pleasant sea temperatures averaging 17°C in July. It’s no wonder it holds a stellar Google review score of 4.7!”
Parking is affordable at just £5.30 per day, making it an ideal spot for a budget-friendly day at the seaside.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of attractions including peaceful sand dunes to the north, and a lively central promenade featuring classic British seaside fun like fairgrounds, arcades, fish and chip shops, and donkey rides.
