A vibrant new Irish bar is in the works to replace the vacant Players nightclub on Birmingham’s bustling Broad Street, promising an innovative rooftop terrace for patrons to enjoy.
The team behind the iconic Snobs nightclub has acquired the former Players venue at 240 Broad Street, a location once known as one of the busiest nightspots along the city’s famed ‘Golden Mile’ before closing in 2022 due to the pandemic.
Purchased on a long leasehold for £2.5 million in late 2024, the Snobs owners have now submitted planning applications to Birmingham City Council to transform the site — including converting an unused flat roof into an inviting rooftop space equipped with a retractable canopy.

According to the application: “Installation of retractable canopy roof at first floor over existing flat roof to create additional usable space and erection of enclosure around existing plant.”
Wayne Tracey, owner of Snobs, shared ambitious plans for the new venue, describing it as “best in class.” She stated: “We will soon begin developing a new Irish bar to complement the city’s expanding collection of high-quality hospitality venues. Our goal is to create a unique experience in Broad Street featuring indoor and outdoor areas for daytime and evening entertainment such as sports broadcasts, live music, and DJs.”
Tracey further revealed plans for a multi-phase project including street-fronted bars, garden terraces, rooftop spaces, and live music zones designed to offer flexibility and cater to a wide range of entertainment needs. The total investment is set to reach £4 million over the next two years, aimed at boosting Birmingham’s dynamic nightlife scene.
“We are thrilled to bring a fresh and exciting venue to the city,” she added, highlighting the development’s potential to attract both locals and visitors to Broad Street’s vibrant entertainment hub.
