Octopus Energy Reveals Surge in Electricity Usage During England vs Norway Match

Octopus Energy has released new data highlighting a remarkable increase in electricity usage during the England vs Norway football match on Saturday night. Analysis reveals that pubs experienced a 42% surge in electricity consumption compared to typical levels, reflecting the nation’s fervent celebrations.

Household electricity demand was already 9% higher than a typical Saturday night at the 10pm kick-off, as enthusiastic fans tuned in to support England. The demand climbed further to 11% above average when Jude Bellingham scored the equaliser, capturing the nation’s attention.

Following the final whistle, electricity usage in homes surged by 22% above normal, as celebrations erupted across the country. Even from 2am to 5am, household energy consumption remained 18% higher than usual—indicating many fans stayed awake to watch the Argentina vs Switzerland match, determining England’s next opponent.

Interestingly, usage dropped 7% below normal between 7am and 9:30am on Sunday morning, suggesting many supporters enjoyed a later start to the day after the late-night festivities.

Electricity consumption at pubs was 19% above typical levels throughout the match and peaked at 42% above normal by 1am, reflecting fans’ extended celebrations following England’s extra-time win.

The data also highlights how fans stayed up into the early hours to follow who England would face in the semi-finals, then enjoyed a well-earned lie-in. Meanwhile, pubs remained lively long after the match, showcasing the nation’s incredible spirit.”
