Met Office Details 113 UK Areas to Face Thunderstorms as Heatwave Ends

The Met Office has announced that 113 areas across the UK are set to experience thunderstorms and heavy rainfall on Friday, marking the end of the recent heatwave. This significant weather change will bring much-needed respite as towns and cities are soaked by these downpours.

The forecast for June 26 indicates cloudy conditions across Scotland, accompanied by rain, thunderstorms, hail, and gusty winds. Meanwhile, other parts of the UK can expect some early showers followed by dry periods and sunny spells. The intense heat is shifting towards eastern England, with temperatures slightly decreasing further west.

Rain showers are expected to gradually diminish in Scotland, while the southeast may experience heavy, possibly thundery rainfall in the latter half of the night. Most other regions will enjoy dry conditions with clear skies overnight, though it will remain warm—albeit cooler than the previous nights.

Looking ahead to June 27, showery and potentially thundery weather is predicted in the east and southeast, with rain slowly moving into the northwest. Other regions should see sunny spells and somewhat cooler temperatures, although it will remain warm in the southeast.

From Sunday through to Tuesday, the outlook suggests showery rain moving eastward on Sunday, bringing cooler and fresher conditions. Monday should be mostly dry with sunny intervals, though occasional showers are possible in the northwest. Temperatures are expected to settle around average levels.

The full list of affected areas spans from Angus and Aberdeen in Scotland, through various counties in Northern Ireland, to numerous locations across England and Wales, including Greater Manchester, Bristol, Cardiff, and York, among others. Residents in these areas are advised to prepare for heavy rain and possible thunderstorms as the heatwave gives way to more unsettled weather.
