Gracechurch Centre in Sutton Coldfield Welcomes 10 New Shops, Bars, and Businesses Including Tesco

A recent marketing document, released by Barker Proudlove—retail property consultants tasked with attracting new tenants—has unveiled plans for ten new shops, bars, and businesses at Sutton Coldfield’s Gracechurch Centre.

Among the notable newcomers are well-known retailers Tesco and F Hinds, the nation-wide jeweler, set to enhance the centre’s retail mix. In addition to five new shops, the centre will see fresh entertainment and leisure options, including a bowling alley, a rooftop cocktail bar, a climbing venue, and two popular cafés, with another eatery under consideration.

The document, titled ‘Asset Overview,’ provides a detailed map of the centre’s layout, highlighting the locations of these new occupants. Confirmed “under offer” are Tesco, Glitter Ball Lane 7 bowling alley (to occupy the former Argos space), Bonmarché women’s fashion store (replacing JD Sports), and Clip n Climb climbing venue (in the former Bodyshop unit).

Other confirmed newcomers include Pom café, which has existing outlets in Lichfield, Ashbourne, and Barton Marina; Havana Lounge Cocktail Roof Terrace on Level One; and F Hinds taking over the former Stormfront Apple electronics store. The document also lists Sevenoaks Sound and Vision, slated to open in the long-vacant former Ann Summers unit.

Additionally, the newly opened North West clothing shop has taken over the former Jones the Bootmaker location as of June 13. A new food and drink outlet is “under offer” for the unit previously housing Cake Solution and Patisserie Valerie on the Parade. Meanwhile, Glamour Forever is poised to occupy the former Claire’s Accessories space, extending its presence from a stall in the centre’s walkway.

Beyond retail, Plantsbrook House—an office block above tenants such as the West Brom building society—is earmarked for redevelopment into a 25-unit residential complex. While prior plans had proposed up to 700 homes, the updated scheme anticipates a more modest 40 flats, aiming to bring immediate local customers to the shopping centre.

The Tesco site will occupy the current spaces of Ryman and Toys 4 You, though it remains unclear if these tenants will be relocated. Furthermore, the new flats plan means that Acacia Family Support charity and Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu must find new premises.

The report highlights the affluent demographic surrounding the centre; average household incomes within one mile stand at £65,000, significantly above regional and national averages. Approximately 78% of local residents own their homes outright or with a mortgage.

Gracechurch Centre boasts 5.5 million visitors annually with projections to reach 8 million. Its convenient location includes proximity to Sutton station with nearly one million passengers a year and a key bus hub serving 1.5 million passengers on 19 routes. The centre hosts over 80 shops, mixing national and international brands alongside a strong family and wellness focus.

Under the ownership of Birmingham Property Group (BPG) and SAV Group, footfall has increased by 10%, boosted by anchor tenants such as Aussie department store Harvey Norman, which holds a 20-year lease, and Silver Tree Bakery, which transitioned from a pop-up to a permanent unit.

Investment of approximately £600,000 is underway to modernise the centre with upgraded ceilings, lighting, seating, greenery, digital displays, canopies, and projection systems aimed at enhancing visitor experience and sustaining the centre’s long-term appeal.

In addition, plans for a rooftop padel centre are progressing, with negotiations ongoing with two potential operators, one of whom has secured £1.5 million in funding, indicating serious intent.
