Phillemon Tsagwa, a 37-year-old business development manager and father of three from Coplow Street, Birmingham, has publicly expressed regret after crashing his Jaguar while significantly over the drink-drive limit. The collision, which occurred on February 27, prompted a 999 emergency call and police involvement.
Tsagwa was found to have 115mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath, more than three times the legal limit, when officers located him at his home following the incident. He pleaded guilty to drink driving during his hearing at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on June 23. A driving ban is currently in place until his sentencing scheduled for early September.
In a heartfelt letter read by his solicitor, Tsagwa conveyed deep remorse, stating, “I regret my decision to drive, especially while disqualified. I understand I could have caused serious harm to myself or others.” He acknowledged the impact of his actions on his family: “I have three young children, and I am aware my behaviour has let them down and put my role as their role model at risk.”

Committed to making positive changes, Tsagwa has started attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings in an effort to address his alcohol issues and prevent future mistakes.
The prosecutor detailed the events, revealing that a member of the public reported the collision and provided CCTV evidence, which helped police track down Tsagwa. Despite facing aggravating factors such as the collision, poor driving, and non-compliance with a previous court order, the defendant’s early guilty plea and efforts to seek help were noted in court.
Defence solicitor Ms. Begum emphasized Tsagwa’s commitment to reform, mentioning his role as a father and professional, and stressing the importance of support for his recovery and family stability.
The court adjourned the case until September 4 for a pre-sentence report, with Tsagwa released on unconditional bail and reminded that his driving ban remains in effect.
