If a picnic filled with cakes, brownies, scones, and sourdough fresh from the oven sounds delightful, Bournville has just the event for you. On Saturday, August 1, the village will host its inaugural ‘Bake Picnic’, inviting the community to gather for a day of delicious homemade baked goods and sunshine.
Organised by Bournville Trust in partnership with Abinchi—a well-loved Birmingham-based social dining and private events company renowned for curated foodie experiences—this event celebrates the talents of local bakers over commercial chains. Attendees are simply encouraged to “bring a blanket,” as the organisers will provide the delightful bakes.
Jamila Dankaro from Abinchi shares, “Our Bake Picnic is a family-focused community event that unites home bakers and independent bakeries from across Birmingham. Imagine picnic blankets spread under the sun, surrounded by tables overflowing with freshly baked bread, cakes, and pastries—all crafted by passionate local bakers.”

With plenty of space for kids and families to relax and enjoy, the event aims to be accessible to all, with a modest admin fee to help keep it affordable. It’s also supported by the Neighbourhood Networks Scheme, underlining its value in bringing together families and older residents for a fun and inclusive community day out.
Don’t miss the chance to savor fresh, local flavors and enjoy a memorable summer picnic in Bournville.
