Birmingham Woman Completes Christmas Shopping Before July

Anna Andrews, a 54-year-old grandmother from Birmingham, has perfected the art of early Christmas shopping. Each year, she completes all her holiday gift purchases by summer, carefully spreading the costs throughout the year to stay within her £800 budget for her three children and four grandchildren.

“I just want to make sure I don’t forget anyone since we have a big family,” Anna explains. Her method involves buying a few carefully chosen presents each month, keeping track mentally rather than using spreadsheets. She listens closely to her grandchildren’s interests and occasionally asks her children for gift ideas to ensure each present is thoughtful and age-appropriate.

Anna begins her festive preparations as early as Boxing Day sales, stocking up on discounted wrapping paper, gift tags, and cards. She stores her growing collection in hidden spots around her home, including bags in her bedroom and an ottoman at the foot of her bed.

This organised approach helps Anna avoid the usual last-minute shopping frenzy, allowing more quality time with loved ones during the Christmas season. “Christmas is about family, not just presents,” she says. “Being organised takes away the stress of rushing and worrying about items selling out. If I change my mind about a gift, I can simply swap it with something else for another family member or a friend.”

Although she finishes buying gifts months early, Anna waits until December 1st to start wrapping, ensuring everyone receives equal attention. The family celebrates with a traditional Christmas dinner, taking turns to host.

Friends admire her organisation skills, while her husband jokes that the pile of presents in their room makes her look like a hoarder. Anna’s early planning became especially important after her breast cancer diagnosis in November 2022, which led to months of treatment and time away from work. Having her Christmas shopping done in advance allowed her to focus on her recovery without added holiday pressure.

Her advice to others is simple: “Save a little each week or buy a gift whenever you can and store it away. You’ll be surprised how much you’ll have by December.”
