Aldi Trials Earlier Weekend Closing Time, Affecting Thousands of Shoppers

Aldi is trialling earlier closing hours on weekends, a change that could impact thousands of shoppers. Some stores, including one in Heanor, Derbyshire, will now close at 9pm instead of the usual 10pm from Monday to Saturday, with Sundays remaining unchanged. This adjustment is initially a trial but may become permanent.

Aldi retailer staff shared updates on social media, highlighting the new closing time effective from 13th July. Out of 1,132 Aldi stores across the UK, the majority close at 10pm, but approximately 48 already close at 9pm. Aldi emphasizes that this change is part of its ongoing efforts to maintain its reputation as Britain’s cheapest supermarket while managing operational costs efficiently.

The supermarket’s spokesperson said, “Our efficient business model means we are always looking for new ways to pass on even greater savings to Aldi shoppers.” This move aligns with Aldi’s commitment to offering low prices without compromising quality.

Additionally, Aldi is continuing its Summer Support Scheme for a second year, aimed at alleviating financial pressures on families during the school holidays. The scheme provides over £3,000 in Aldi vouchers throughout July and August, with daily winners receiving £50 each to spend on groceries or essentials.

Julie Ashfield, Aldi UK’s Chief Commercial Officer, stated, “The summer break can put extra pressure on finances, especially when it comes to keeping children fed, entertained and active during the holidays. As the UK’s cheapest supermarket, we’re committed to helping families make their money go further all year round.”
